Anthony Plews (Senior Software Architect and Director at ApStory), was on a holiday to the United States around 5 years ago, he was visiting Boulder in Colorado. As a MTB enthusiast he wanted to spend some time out on the trails.
Only problem was, he was in a foreign place and had no idea where to ride.
He was frustrated. He didn’t know where to start or what to do. He thought he might be able to just follow other riders and find a trail?
But what if he took the wrong route? Where might he end up? Being lost in a foreign country would be scary for anyone!
He began thinking. How can I solve this problem?
What if there was a mobile app that listed all the trails the locals were riding?
On a map that could navigate you to the trail-head?
So, when he got home to South Africa, he got to work. With help of Wesley Bramwell (Design / UX @ Apstory) they designed and de veloped ActiFinder. A simple intuitive geolocation based app/listing service, that would list trailheads (as well as events) globally.
Why the trailhead? Well, the trailhead provides vital information for riders and runners alike. For example, parking, info about trail difficulty and distance options, the type of trail, facilities and most important Emergency contact details.
